Weight Loss 1:1 Coaching Session

Updated: Jul 18, 2021

I recently had a coaching session with Molly. (The name has been changed for purposes of confidentiality.)

Molly has been doubting herself and has been in her own way this entire time. She's been showing up for herself daily, completing brutal workouts in her final attempt to lose weight and finally love what she sees when she looks in the mirror. This is the way she believes she will be worthy and good enough, but it's all completely an illusion. She's been holding herself back, and blocking results due to thinking that it won't actually work and she's wasting her time, and 'what if it doesn't work'.

Molly sees herself as an exception. This is a common block that people have.

It often comes from being told at an early age, "Who are you to be special?"

"Why should you _____________ (fill in the blank.)

Coaching requires you to become radically honest with yourself. This honesty allows change.

"OK, So what next?" attitude.

This is the rundown of our coaching session:

Steph (Coach): What do you currently believe about your fitness challenge and weight loss?

Molly (Client): I believe it's no use. I'm going to do all of this work and I'm not going to see any change. It's going to take me 6 months to see any real results. I have to change everything and give up everything to get results.

Steph: What do you want to believe?

Molly: I want to believe that it can be easy. That it's just a few lifestyle changes required. That if I keep showing up, ill see results. That if I just love myself, the fat will fall off me and I'll be fit, toned and have the body like everyone else.

Steph: And what are the facts?

Molly: I can't possibly gain weight by doing this challenge. I am gaining muscle and burning lots of fat. It's been six weeks of consistent effort, and I have have about 3 to go. I will probably be blown away by what I see in the mirror. I will be blown away by the measurements. I haven't done anything wrong. This is part of the process.

I'm doing one of the hardest challenges on the planet right now.

Steph: What part about this do you think it won't work? Why, of all bodies in this world, would yours be an exception? It's not. This programme was made to help you. And you're doing it. This was made for you and your body.

Molly: Hmmmmm

Steph: Why is it so hard for you to believe that you can look in the mirror and see someone absolutely beautiful?

Molly: Because all my life I've been told that I'm not. And I've believed that I'm not. So I have to prove this programme wrong.

Steph: What part about proving this programme wrong will actually help your life? It is a waste of effort and time to prove it wrong.

Molly: There really is no point in proving it wrong, is there. I see that now.

Steph: There is no good in proving this programme wrong. There is nothing wrong with it. There is nothing wrong with you. This programme is right for you, and it's helping you to finally move into the dream body you've always had. What's so wrong about that?

It's what you want. You're not hurting anyone by going after what you want. You're growing in your fitness, you're growing in your confidence and capabilities. You're seeing a reflection of the person you've always wanted to be.

Molly: I guess you're right. I shouldn't be doubting myself or what I'm doing. I just don't want to spend time and money to experience another failure.

Steph: You aren't failing. You never have failed.

Molly: I guess I can just be so hard on myself sometimes. I can see now that I've been putting in the effort and I need to stay consistent, love myself for more than just my body, and remind myself that I am special and loved.

Steph: Exactly. You're doing amazing!
